CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – February 27, 2024

The UFG Foundation is pleased to announce that its most recent funding cycle — totaling $296,000 — will fund 20 different nonprofit projects in Iowa.

The private foundation of UFG Insurance aims to build upon the property and casualty insurance carrier’s community-focused mission of support.

“We take our mission to enhance the communities where we live and work seriously,” explained UFG Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Michael Sheeley. “Not only through charitable giving such as UFG Foundation grants and corporate sponsorship donations, but through the noble volunteer work of our employees across the country as well.”

Grant recipients this cycle include:

  • Brucemore.
  • Cedar Rapids Public Library.
  • Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity.
  • Foundation 2 Crisis Services.
  • Freedom Foundation, Cedar Rapids.
  • Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa.
  • Heritage Area Agency on Aging.
  • Indian Creek Nature Center.
  • Iowa College Foundation.

  • Kirkwood Community College Foundation.

  • Monarch Research Project.
  • Mount Mercy University.
  • NewBo City Market.
  • Orchestra Iowa.
  • Tanager.
  • The ARC of East Central Iowa.
  • Worldmaker International.
  • YPN.
Qualifying nonprofits who demonstrate a connection to UFG’s vision, mission and values may apply for one of three types of grants, including programmatic funding, operating support or capital campaign (under certain circumstances). Grant cycles are open three times per year. The next cycle is open now through April 30.

“Nonprofits are welcome to explore our general funding philosophies and guidelines, then share their stories of community impact with us,” said Sheeley, also a representative of the UFG Foundation.

Historically, the foundation prioritizes funding for Cedar Rapids area nonprofits providing health/human services, arts, education or environmental programs, though other community-based work and nonprofits located near UFG offices out of state may be considered as funds allow.

Since it began in 1999, the foundation has awarded more than $15 million to nonprofits through 2022.
