Founded by Scott McIntyre Sr., UFG was officially incorporated as United Casualty Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on January 2, 1946. Since that time, the company has grown and evolved significantly, currently employing over 850 professionals across the country and partnering with approximately 850 independent agencies coast to coast.
Throughout its history, UFG has remained committed to its values of service, partnerships, innovation, respect, integrity and trust, as well as its founding principle of doing business and treating people the right way — an inspiring hallmark of its people-centered culture that remains ingrained within company walls and demonstrated daily through its service to agents and policyholders.
In recent years, UFG has embarked on a strategic transformation to deepen expertise across all functional areas, evolve its capabilities to better serve customers’ changing needs and improve alignment with its agents. The company’s dedication to delivering value to its customers through deep expertise, specialized capabilities, personal relationships and responsive service is a strong differentiator.
“During my time at UFG, I have developed a profound respect and admiration for the people-centered culture and enduring values that shaped our company over the past 80 years and continue to drive us forward today,” said UFG President and CEO Kevin Leidwinger, the sixth leader in the company’s history. “It has been rewarding to lead UFG through our ongoing strategic transformation, and I am pleased with the progress we’ve made toward our mission of achieving superior financial and operational performance. In reflecting on our 80th anniversary, I am incredibly proud of our people for their unwavering commitment to UFG’s success and thankful for the support of our agents, policyholders and shareholders as we continue to position the company for the future.”
UFG Board Chairperson Jim Noyce, a 15-year member of the board, added, “UFG has a proud history, an exciting present and a bright future ahead. For 80 years, the company has been committed to delivering on its promises to stakeholders and I’m confident that the work underway today is positioning UFG for its next 80 years of success. On behalf of the board, I offer my sincere congratulations to the entire UFG team on reaching this milestone anniversary — here’s to continued growth and profitability ahead.”
