UFG Insurance awards $20,000 in 2021 scholarships as part of its distracted driving awareness program

Released on: May 3, 2021, 08:00 AM
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – May 3, 2020
On the heels of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, UFG Insurance is proud to announce 10 winners of its annual Worth It scholarship. Each student receives a $2,000 educational award.

Selected based on short answers and an essay expressing why life is worth more than the danger of driving distracted, this year’s winners are:

  • Joshua Callaway from Shingle Springs, California.
  • David Craig from Alsip, Illinois.
  • Felicity Gentry from Liberty Hill, Texas.
  • Cameron Gilmore from Blacksburg, Virginia.
  • Emily Horace from Pickerington, Ohio.
  • Joyce Lee from University Place, Washington.
  • Brittany McLaughlin from Nacogdoches, Texas.
  • Ryan Newman from Beachwood, New Jersey.
  • Obioha Onwuanibe from Laurel, Maryland.
  • Landon Smith from Pilot Mountain, North Carolina.
“These scholars strongly demonstrated what’s at stake when a driver takes their eyes off the road,” explains Katie Jensen, UFG community relations coordinator and Worth It distracted driving awareness program liaison. “Out of 400 applicants, their answers most closely align to Worth It educational goals, so, in turn, UFG is honored to support the education goals of these 10 students.”

Now in its fourth year, the Worth It scholarship was created for any high school senior who plans to enroll — or any current undergraduate student who is already enrolled — in full-time study at an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher learning. The next scholarship window will open fall 2021.
