UFG Insurance announces 2020 Worth It scholarship winners

Released on: May 11, 2020, 10:00 AM
Insurance company awards $20,000 in scholarships as part of its distracted driving awareness program.

UFG Insurance is proud to announce the 10 students selected to receive a $2,000 scholarship as part of its 2020 Worth It distracted driving awareness program.

Selected based on short answers and an essay expressing why life is worth more than the danger of driving distracted, this year’s winners are:

  • Nick Banfield from Rochester, Minnesota
  • Lila Dere from Grand Junction, Colorado
  • Justin Hoffman from Waterloo, Iowa
  • Katherine Huey from Urbandale, Iowa
  • Isha Kalia from Marion, Iowa
  • Paityn Krout from Veedersburg, Indiana
  • Kayla McGee from Decatur, Georgia
  • Sophie Plass from Tulelake, California
  • Brennah Ricketts from Onslow, Iowa
  • Sydney Ward from Marion, Iowa
“We received more than 200 well-thought-out applications from across the country this year,” explains UFG’s Community Relations Coordinator Katie Jensen. “The winners displayed exceptional understanding of what’s at stake when people choose to drive distracted, and that’s a huge part of what the Worth It campaign is all about.”

Now in its third year, the Worth It scholarship was created for any high school senior who plans to enroll—or any current undergraduate student who is already enrolled—in full-time study at an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher learning. The scholarship window for the 2021-2022 academic year will open again in fall 2020.

“UFG is thrilled to support the academic endeavors of this year’s winners,” Jensen adds. “We hope they continue to advocate for focused driving along the way.”
