The world of work continues to change rapidly. To keep up, recruitment strategies — and careers — should evolve to meet audience expectations.

Today, UFG marketing interns Kit and Kat (also known as Kit-Kat!) take over Agent Update to share three top tips for recruiting Gen Z employees. After all, who better to walk through these insights than actual Gen Z-ers? No worries, Zach! We’ll catch you on the next one.

  • Tip #1 – Show, don’t tell.
Our first tip is marketing your job the right way. For example, you don’t have to worry about Gen Z struggling to find your social media, they’ve already found it.

What’s on your social channels? Think of it like show, don’t tell. Try posting a day in the life of one of your employees to give people an idea of your work environment.

Bonus tip: Maybe make sure your employees are willing to help with this first.

Don’t be shy about plugging your social media accounts on your main websites or adding them to your job postings
  • Tip #2 – Offer opportunities.
Research shows Gen Z is job hopping. A lot. They’re finding other ways to use their skills, especially if they feel like their job isn’t fulfilling.

They’re also more likely to scroll past your job description if all they see is busy work.

Offer your younger prospects the opportunity to explore their role or the department they’re working in. While this likely won’t mean a seat at the chief marketing officer’s desk, why not try offering mentorships as one path to success?

You could even provide more opportunities for them to work in teams so they’re able to gain new perspectives.
  • Tip #3 – Flexibility.
Gen Z has spent a large portion of their life, both in school and work, in a hybrid model because of the pandemic, so they’ve come to expect it. Those who prefer it may even skip right past a job if it doesn’t mention that it’s a hybrid role.

According to research by McKinsey, younger employees are 59% more likely than older employees to leave their jobs if they don’t have a hybrid option available.

Gen Z doesn’t necessarily want to work from home all of the time — in fact, being in the office gives them a chance to grow their network. That said, they just want the flexibility to use their time effectively and find their ideal work life balance.

Well, there you have it, agents — three simple tips for recruiting — possibly even retaining — Gen Z employees. Shoutout to Gen Z, am I right? Ha!
