UFG is seeking an experienced senior application developer that will be engaged in challenging, and innovative projects that will impact our organizations success. This position will play a critical role in the review, design, development and modification of web services and applications. This position requires a critical thinker with strong technical skills who can thrive in a fast paced environment.  This position may direct the work of other team members and will also participate in the mentoring and development of other application developers.


This position can be located at our Corporate Headquarters in Cedar Rapids, IA; a regional UFG office; or in a remote work arrangement.

  • Development business functionality in Java/J2EE technologies
  • Experience with frequent releases for high-availability web applications
  • Design, Develop and support integration web services
  • Help set and uphold the integrity of the API Management platform and API library
  • Recommend solutions that will meet the meet or exceed the expectations of the project team members and system users.
  • Design and write new or modify existing applications based on specifications developed by project manager and business analysts.
  • Mentor, coach and provide technical advice to junior developers as needed for maintenance and enhancement of existing applications.
  • Stay current in the field through company provided and personal continuing technical education and development community involvement
  • Actively participate in cross-functional project teams.
  • Actively participate in insurance classes, programming coursework or in-house training programs throughout their careers

  • Four-year college degree in computer science, information technology, other related technical field or relevant experience and training
  • 7+ years of development work experience
  • 1+ year experience leveraging Mulesoft is preferred, other API Management Software is valued. 
  • Intermediate level programming skills in Java/J2EE technologies
  • Experience in any of the following - CloudHub, Mule EST, Connectors, API Manager, RAML, Batch Processing, Data Transformations using Data Weave, Flow Controls, Exception Handling Strategies and Security implementation using OAuth
  • Knowledge of API Management concepts and fundamentals
  • Experience working in and Agile software development environment
  • Experience on any enterprise service bus product (ESB and/or JMS messaging)
  • Experience with frequent releases for high-availability web applications
  • Experience working on complex multi-tiered applications
  • Ability to be self-directed and to take initiative in defining and completing project deliverables.
  • Excellent analytical skills; strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using web services/APIs to access and integrate with external systems
  • Mulesoft Certification is valued
