Underwriting Best Practices Analyst

The Underwriting Best Practices Analyst will focus on the creation, development, and implementation of the UFG Way of Underwriting program. This includes underwriting best practice guides, underwriting standards, tools and resources, and other elements that align with our overall underwriting philosophy and organizational goals. This position will collaborate with the underwriting regions to ensure a successful implementation and adaption of the UFG Way of Underwriting. The role will also include the research and monitoring of underwriting trends and practices to help develop creative solutions that drive underwriting operational excellence.

  • Development and maintenance of underwriting best practice guides and UFG underwriting standards, including by line of business and industry segments.
  • Continually search for better ways to improve and help the underwriting organization, including the creation of underwriting tools and resources.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with underwriting regions to ensure successful adoption and operation of the UFG Way of Underwriting across the organization by training, coaching, and monitoring progress.
  • Continuous improvement of the UFG Way of Underwriting elements, and regular monitoring to ensure best practices are being met.
  • Research and monitor underwriting trends and practices, including innovation and technological advances, emerging issues, competitor activity, and front-line feedback.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Portfolio Management, Product Development, Analytics, Claims, and Marketing to develop solutions that align with the organization’s goals. Analytics, Claims, Marketing
  • Participate and provide support in the strategic planning process as well as carrying out strategic initiatives for the underwriting organization.
  • Develop creative solutions to communicate progress and information throughout the underwriting organization.
  • Engaging with multiple work streams on innovation and the implementation of creative solutions to ensure continuity across regions and functions.
  • Responsible for oversight and continuous evaluation of the target operating model for the underwriting organization. Proactively research and challenge current processes and technology within the target operating model.
  • Assist Training in the development and presentation of materials that may be beneficial to the underwriting staff when needed.
  • All other duties as assigned, relevant to the position.



  • Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred
  • Active participation in insurance industry education programs
  • One or more industry designations are desired: CPCU, AU, ARM, CIC, AINS, AIC, ARE, etc.


  • 5 years of experience in underwriting, marketing, claims, and/or training experience – or equivalent applicable experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Self-motivated with proven research skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
