This role will work collaboratively with software developers to automate deployments and operate our core systems, help streamline our operations and process and build and maintain tools for deployment, monitoring, and operation in our development, test, QA, and production environments.

 

This position can be located at our Corporate Headquarters in Cedar Rapids, IA; a regional UFG office; or in a remote work arrangement.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Actively working with the development team to ensure a smooth CI/CD of the various services of the software platform
  • Automate the build and configuration software and hardware enhancements, application deployments and infrastructure up-grades.
  • Actively working with the IT team to ensure availability of monitoring and logging services for first line troubleshooting and escalation
  • Owning the release process and ensuring stability across the platform's different environments
  • Assisting the QA team with continued automation of the QA process
  • Develop processes & documentation to drive improved development and IT experiences with the CI/CD processes of the platform
  • Automate the server operating release patches.
  • Perform, configure and install upgrades, new installations, enhancements and configuration changes to new environments and/or applications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams maintain and enhance the functionality of the UFG website and Intranet.
  • Research, evaluate and recommend new and innovative technologies, software and hardware enhancements.
  • Provide support per help desk request by investigation and troubleshooting issues and keep personnel updated on problem resolution status.
  • Provides technical assistance to development teams where necessary.
  • Maintain up to date and relevant documentation in support of the different platforms/programs.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associates Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred

Experience:

  • 5+ years of work experience with development and deployment tools preferred
  • Experience with Orchestration, instance management and cost control on cloud providers like AWS is preferred.
  • Experience with PowerShell is prefered.
  • Experience with automated testing, both front end and backend is preferred
  • Strong problem solving / analytical skills
  • Understanding of system and networking concepts and troubleshooting techniques
  • Have experience with tools like Kubernetes, Docker, Team City, Octopus, VRealize and serverless frameworks
  • Be familiar with Gitlab, Jenkins, and other DevOps tools
  • Knowledge of the software development processes and methodologies
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within IT operations.
  • Ability to solve problems, see relationships and visualize information flows with the United Fire Group organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong experience with orchestration, instance management and cost control
  • Strong understanding of tools and technologies: source control, continuous integration, infrastructure automation, deployment automation, container concepts, orchestration and cloud
  • Strong problem solving / analytical skills
