The Legal Administrative Supervisor will be responsible for supervising the Paralegals, Legal Secretaries and Legal Clerks. The Legal Administrative Supervisor will monitor assignments, redistribute work as necessary, ensure attorney needs are being met, coordinate day-to-day workflow, manage vendor relationships and billing, and maintain the department calendar. The Legal Administrative Supervisor will be responsible for the training, development and performance of personnel, as well as conducting monthly 1:1 meetings with each staff member. The Legal Administrative Supervisor may serve as the Legal Assistant to one or more attorney in addition to supervisory duties.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership, direction, motivation and coaching to legal administrative support professionals and paralegals.
  • Manage day-to-day performance, deliver feedback in a timely and constructive manner, and discuss workplace opportunities and challenges with staff.
  • Work with staff attorneys to identify support needs; recommend and implement efficient workflow processes and procedures.
  • Reviews and monitors quality and productivity with respect to office performance.
  • Monitors attendance/punctuality.
  • Establishes, communicates, and implements departmental plans, objectives, and strategies. Creates an effective work environment by developing a common vision, establishing teamwork and recognizing strong performance.
  • Establishes effective and positive relationships with administrative professionals, attorneys, paraprofessionals, and Claims personnel.
  • Maintain up-to-date practical knowledge of policies and procedures in order to assist, guide, and instruct the staff and attorneys.
  • Assists with technical issues.
  • Manages vendor relationships, including billing issues
  • Acting as a liaison between attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and legal clerks and the Regional Managing Attorney Services on employee relations issues.
  • May perform legal assistant casework requiring advanced knowledge and specific attention to detail
  • Develops staff through coaching, providing performance feedback, providing effective performance assessments, and establishing performance & development plans.
  • Interview and select candidates for open positions and oversee the on-boarding process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associate’s degree in related field required
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred

Experience:

  • 5+ years of paralegal or legal administrative assistant experience  
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Previous experience in a staff counsel operation preferred

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Ability to perform complex legal/administrative work with efficiency and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with different personalities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), legal document management software, Westlaw/Lexis
  • Strong leadership skills, including motivating, collaborating and problem solving
  • Ability and willingness to share knowledge in a helpful manner
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to initiate, organize and coordinate complex projects and cases
  • Sense of urgency and responsiveness
  • Appreciation for and commitment to delivery of high quality work
  • Personal integrity and adherence to a high degree of professionalism and ethical competency
