The Underwriting Project Leader is responsible for coordinating and managing regional input on corporate projects, including analyzing potential resources required, expected time frame for delivery and coordinating multiple staff and project schedules.  This impactful role also is responsible for team organization and for developing advanced tools and resources for regional management and for underwriting team members.  This role contributes to resources needed to manage our portfolio, including program business tools, agency management tools, underwriting tools and book roll tools.  The role is responsible for organizing regional initiatives to develop them to their maximum benefit & contribution.

Responsibilities:
  • Identify resource needs for corporate & regional projects, including time & staffing resources.
  • Schedule and advance corporate & regional projects per the determined schedule, including setting milestones and checkpoints & keeping all resources on track for meeting deadlines & successful execution of project.
  • Develop, implement and maintain advanced tools for underwriting individual territory management.
  • Develop, implement and maintain advanced tools for portfolio management of program business and of regional business; provide detailed analysis of data in written and graphic report form to be presented to leadership team, including assistance with regional rate review process. Assist in identifying trends and opportunities supported by the data.
  • Develop, implement and maintain advanced tools for effective communication of corporate and regional information to all team members.
  • Represent region and contribute on various corporate projects/committees, including our OASIS initiative.
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies, and offer recommendations & solutions for improving efficiencies.
  • Provide compliance oversight, audits & recommendations; use underwriting training and knowledge to identify any compliance issues with SOX, procedures, or guidelines, and make recommendations to supervisor for improvement.
  • Translate meeting notes into meaningful, actionable documentation.
  • Work with regional leadership and corporate analytics/actuarial on program business profitability analysis and dividend schedule proposals.
  • Assist in developing budgeting tools and in maintaining regional budget.
  • Be a technology resource for all team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelors degree required with strong project management, math &/or analytical focus.
  • CPCU desired.

Experience:

  • Minimum five years insurance experience, with a minimum of two years of that experience in an underwriting or underwriting support role.
  • Advanced technical Excel knowledge with the ability to develop pivot tables and write complex macros.
  • ACL, ImageRight, Synergy, ACC knowledge helpful.
  • Experience in bringing large projects to successful completion, including experience at every level of the project.

  • Must excel in organizational and efficiency skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment & to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong focus on ability to actively listen.
  • Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Quick learner, especially regarding new technology tools and analytical concepts.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Tableau knowledge.
  • Ability to couple creativity with technology to deliver results.
  • Team player with the ability to work with a wide variety of customers, internal and external.
