Training Specialist - Claims

The Training Specialist will develop and implement claims training in order to provide best in class claims service to our customers. The Claims Training Specialist is responsible for onboarding newly hired individuals, integrating them into the UFG culture, providing training on basic multi-line claims handling techniques and providing training and guidance for existing claims staff.


  • Conduct group and individual training programs specifically around multi-line claims handling
  • Coordinate training schedules, programs delivery of training in all regions.
  • Consults with managers and supervisors on the current and emerging development needs.
  • Creatively develops and facilitates new programs as needed; researches, recommends and implements developmental solutions as needs change.
  • Research, design and develop training programs; participate in the development and testing of automated systems for which training will be delivered.
  • Partner with claims quality assurance to identify training needs.
  • Create and update training documentation, aides and other training materials.
  • Maintain training records.
  • Provide support to all employees.
  • Work with QA to identify training needs.
  • Working with various departments on automation enhancements to current systems.
  • Coordinate Continuing Education needs with Regional claims offices.
  • Identify and develop mentors in each Regional claims office
  • Stays abreast of industry changes and best practices, and recommends to management training programs, including seminars and schools, that can be utilized in developing specialized skills.
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree in education, business or computer science or equivalent business experience
  • CPCU, AIC, SCLA or Legal Principles, CCLA preferred or to be obtained within 3 years
  • Obtain WCLA within 3 years


  • 3+ years of insurance adjusting experience
  • Multi-line claims (including workers compensation) adjusting experience is preferred
  • Experience in training adults or adult-related education is helpful


Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to adapt teaching style to students learning style
  • Knowledge of technical based training
  • Strong time management
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presentation and training delivery skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principle and procedures for the investigation and processing of property and casualty claims.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a supportive, dependable and collaborative way
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
