The UFG Enterprise Analytics Department is focused on delivering strategically impactful results by building analytically based solutions that integrate a wide range of internal and external data assets.  The ultimate objective of the Enterprise Analytics organization is to help UFG gain and maintain a competitive advantage.


We are seeking an Analyst to support the development of pricing, portfolio monitoring, and state filing projects for UFG’s Commercial Property & Casualty segment. This individual will work closely with Underwriting, Actuarial, and Analytics to develop and implement strategies that drive towards profitable growth of our P&C segment.  The ideal candidate will possess strong technical and communication skills.  We are looking for an individual who is internally motivated, intellectually curious, has the ability to manage multiple projects, and is driven to enhance existing processes.


  • Prepare and manage rate filings according to agreed schedule, coordinating with Product, Compliance, Legal, and Actuarial Pricing teams, as necessary
  • Perform active portfolio monitoring, including rate/retention segmentation, aligned with segment/LOB
  • Provide dedicated regional support and serve as liaison into the pricing function
  • Provides internal reporting to regional underwriting and actuarial pricing
  • Serve as close, regular liaisons with risk, claims, reserving and distribution
  • Conduct periodic in-depth portfolio reviews and deep-dives by LOB
  • Work with underwriters to develop decision support tools
  • Support price delivery and testing

  • BS in Finance, Accounting, MIS or related field.  Advanced degree preferred.
  • Possess one or more of the following insurance designations: CPCU, AU, or ARM
  • 4+ years of related commercial P&C product experience
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to identify patterns in data and synthesize into insights
  • Thorough understanding of portfolio management concepts, LOB and industry/segment subject matter expertise
  • Thorough understanding of policy forms, rates, rules, and procedures
  • Working knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements
  • Sufficient understanding of underwriting and actuarial concepts
  • Detailed knowledge of pricing/portfolio actions and the impact on future profitability
  • Knowledge of market dynamics and emerging issues that could impact competitive position, ability to achieve rate increases, etc.
  • Ability to establish trust and communicate results effectively with regional underwriting teams
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functional teams
  • Skills with Excel, Power Point, and SQL desired
